Boarding 101 

Your guide to a successful boarding experience, and not just for your pet(s) - for you too!

Our overnight, crate-free* "Home away from home" boarding service gives your animal a safe, enriching experience with us, without the use of kennels or a loud, overcrowded and stressful environment, overnight! They will eat, play and get the one on one attention all dogs deserve, and they will have the time of their life! ​

 

*Crating is optional, and at owner-request, with an owner-provided crate ONLY. Please request this when scheduling your dates.

SCHEDULING

 

Boarding can be requested through your online portal account. Availability is limited, so please submit your requests as soon as possible. *NOTE: Effective June 14th, 2026 in the interest of quality assurance, boarding requests must be submitted via the portal. A "complete" boarding request will include:

​

  • ALL DATES: your departure date, the date your animal will return home, and all dates in between

  • A PICK UP PLAN: your *pick up service choice, date and time block 

  • A DROP OFF PLAN: your *drop off service choice, date and time blocks​

IMMUNIZATION REQUIREMENTS

​

An up-to-date rabies vaccination is mandated by New York State, and must be on file in your pet profile page of the portal, for any and all services. If requesting boarding for your dog(s), The Pet Guardians requires 2 additional immunizations, with an up-to-date record or certificate made available to us prior to boarding:

  • Bordetella

  • Distemper (DAPP, DHPP)

​

If you need to request boarding but your dog is not vaccinated for Bordetella and Distemper, consult with your vet and make an appointment as soon as possible!

​

PLEASE NOTE: Complementary pick up and drop off are offered by The Pet Guardians team and is available Monday through Saturday, 9-11am and 5-8pm. If you have transportation needs outside of these days and times, a discounted taxi service is available - see details below.

TRANSPORTATION GUIDELINES

​

The Pet Guardians, as a courtesy, offers a number of boarding transportation options at NO COST to our clients. The following can be requested for pick up or drop off, at no charge:

​

  • Monday through Saturday (non-holidays): 9-11am or 5-8pm

​

If you require transportation outside of these days & times, taxi service is available Sundays & Holidays 9am-8pm, and Monday through Saturday 11am-5pm. Paid boarding taxis ($15 one way) are 25% off the regular taxi price ($20 one way).

​

It is imperative that your transportation requests are included with your boarding request! If we are not provided with your transportation requests more than 24 hours in advance of your boarding stay, we will default to AM pickup on your start date, and PM drop off on your return date.

​

WHAT IS INCLUDED IN A "BOARD"

​

Boarding is a safe, fun alternative to overnights in your home... Your dog(s) will live, play, eat and sleep just as ours do - our space becomes their space, and we make it a priority that each dog receives one-on-one attention! Our on-staff owner and trainer Christa considers every factor from personality to play style when scheduling boards. At times your dog will be the only boarder, enjoying their time with our animals. Other times there may be another dog boarding, but every boarder must pass the same evaluation and behavioral analysis prior to being approved for boarding. Some of the questions our certified dog trainer and owner asks when evaluating a board:

How is their general temperment?
How is their temperment near food or resources?
Are they fully house trained, with no incidents of marking within one year?

​

If and only if a dog has repeatedly proven to be safe around others, contributes positively to their environment, etc, will they be approved for boarding.

 

All boards receive the same standard of care that our pets do - early morning and late night potty breaks, mid day walks (15-30 minutes), plenty of play time during the day, air conditioning while indoors, and a structured setting for eating and sleeping.

BOARDING SERVICE CHARGES & ADDITIONAL BOARDING HOURS

​

One "day" of boarding is 24 hours, and can be as little as 12 hours (details below). When your pet is picked up for boarding, the timer begins. If your pick up and drop off windows are in the same time block, there will be no additional hours billed, as your boarding will begin and end at the 24 hour mark.

​

If you need additional boarding hours due to your boarding drop off occuring later in the day than your pick up, final-day boarding is billed at $5 per hour, up to 11 hours. Additional hours of 12 or more are considered an additional day, and will be invoiced as such.

​

Naturally, there may be circumstances where opting out of free drop off and paying for a boarding taxi home, earlier in the day may make more sense financially. If you provide us with your actual departure and arrival plans, we are happy to calculate the least costly option.

​

EMERGENCY BOARDING & EXTENSIONS

​

Boarding requests must be received more than 24 hours before their start day and time. Life can, however, present unexpected or unintended challenges - we are here to make it easier to navigate! If you need to submit a boarding request within 24 hours of the start date and time, and we have availability, the Emergency Board rate is $20 in addition to the normal Boarding rate. We also understand that your plans may change, while you are out of state, or even out of the country, and unfortunately not always by choice! In the event you will arrive later than planned, we will provide additional boarding days and hours as needed, if available. If for some reason we are unable to extend your board, we will work with you to ensure your pet has the care they need, when they need it. If availability limitations exist, our backup plan options include overnights in your home (pending availability), and late night/early morning pet visits, along with mid day visits.

ADDITIONAL OPTIONS

​

If your pup enjoys other services with The Pet Guardians on a regular basis, and even if they do not, you may want a longer mid day walk, an adventure walk every other day, or something more to put them on the same type of schedule they keep when at home. Boarding dogs enjoy a 20% discount (upon request) on any regular day services including Dog Walks, Adventure Walks & Buddy Walks (if approved in advance). By packaging your boarding with additional exercise and stimulation services, your pup will be on top of the world!

LAST MINUTE CHANGES

​

While we make every effort to accomodate, last minute changes to transportation requests may not be honored, and may be impossible. If your plans, itinerary or circumstances change, please contact us on our business line as soon as possible, and we will work with you to adjust your plan. Additional boarding day may be necessary, but we will work with you to the best of our ability to minimize unexpected costs.

If we arrive for your scheduled pick up or drop off, including default windows as outlined above, and upon arriving to your home cannot gain access due to missing keys, incorrect pin, instructions not left or removed from the portal, or  for any other reason or circumstance, we will reach out to you for assistance. If we cannot gain access within 15 minutes of our initial phone call to you. a $15 Inaccessible Home fee will be billed. Additionally, if you continue to be unreachable, and 60 minutes pass from our drop off arrival, we will automatically add one additional day of boarding, and return to our boarding site. Emergency boarding fees will apply.
